JCMAP

The Jersey City Mural Arts Program (JCMAP), New Jersey’s largest public art organization, has curated over 200 murals since 2013, focusing on city beautification and community engagement. To better express the program’s impact and expand its reach, JCMAP needed a complete brand refresh and a new website to showcase their initiatives, including calls for artists, events, and their youth art program. Mean Genius reimagined the JCMAP brand from the ground up, introducing a fresh logo, a targeted social media campaign, and a dynamic website. The launch of this revitalized brand culminated in a public event that brought together stakeholders, partners, and the community to celebrate the transformative power of public art and the next chapter of JCMAP’s legacy.

Takeaway

The Jersey Mural Arts Program project exemplifies the impact of end-to-end design experiences. We transformed an organization offering true value to the city into one that effectively communicates that value across multiple channels, driving a powerful campaign. The results inspired cities like Asbury Park, Detroit, and Hartford to emulate this approach, reestablish their brand presence, and expand their own programs. Since the launch of JCMAP, the number of curated murals has more than doubled, as has the diversity of sponsors. This success underscores the importance of storytelling and rich interactive experiences in expressing a program’s value.
